Goodwin: 'Let's Finish With A Flourish'

It’s been a disappointing end to the year for the Belle Vue Colts after failing to reach the NL Play Offs but they’re determined to complete their home fixtures starting with the King’s Lynn Young Stars.

Starring alongside No.1 Josh Bailey in the role of heat leaders are Ryan Kinsley and Nathan Greaves, the latter of whom was the man to set the first ever NSS track record in a time of 65.6 seconds.

But the Young Stars’ spearhead will be missing in action on Friday, and the Norfolk outfit have called on the experienced hand of Jon Armstrong to take his place at the top of the hierarchy.

Tom Stokes – R/R in operation for him - usually serves opposite captain Scott Campos to make up the second string pairing while Lewis Whitmore and Taylor Hampshire round off the team at reserve.

The Cool Running Colts’ October schedule couldn’t be further from that which they had earlier this year, a fact which can sometimes catch clubs out going from active to inactive in a short window.

But with the majority of riders keeping themselves occupied in the higher tiers of British Speedway, it’s unlikely they’ll be caught napping on a track where they’ve already tasted great success.

Regrettably, the talented Dan Bewley will not see out the season with his National League side due to ongoing complications with concussion. The club will operate Rider Replacement for him at No.3.

A surprise addition to the home team’s line-up will be the returning Rob Shuttleworth, who is back in action after suffering a broken collarbone just four weeks ago at Edinburgh’s Armadale Stadium.

Team manager Graham Goodwin said: “We can’t be too disappointed with our season, despite the later frustrations of our schedule. It would’ve been nice to get all our matches in but sadly we didn’t.

“We’ve achieved an awful lot in the months since we first began racing. Yes, we had a few teething problems early doors but for me the boys can look back at our National League return with pride.

“There are quite a few very promising youngsters in their team and they are well worth watching. Obviously we know what Nathan Greaves is capable of here and will no doubt be a big threat.

“To boot they’ve also brought in Jon Armstrong as a guest for the missing Josh Bailey who we know also has quite the affinity for this track, while we also welcome back Rob Shuttleworth to our side.

“We’re in for a great meeting against King’s Lynn. They’re one of the teams we’ve been most looking forward to meeting at home because they have adopted a very similar philosophy to us this year.”
