The Belle Vue pairing of Craig Cook and Max Fricke just missed out on semi-final qualification in Friday’s Premiership Pairs tournament at Somerset after racking up 11 points between them.
Cook made a powerful entrance to the competition with a first heat victory, holding off Grand Prix regular Fredrik Lindgren and his partner Jacob Thorssell with Max Fricke pushing hard in fourth.
Coming up against the Swindon pair of Jason Doyle and Nick Morris in Heat 5, the Aces duo found the going much tougher and had to settle for two consolation points courtesy of club No.1 Fricke.
Their final appearance of the night saw them face the home boys from Somerset, Rohan Tungate and Patrick Hougaard, against whom they claimed a hard-earned 5-4 advantage for their trouble.
But despite their best efforts it was the Wolves and the Robins who advanced from Group A to the semi-finals, joining King’s Lynn and Rye House who reigned victorious from Group B.
A well-fought final between the Stars and the reigning Premiership Champions saw the former, represented by Chris Holder and Robert Lambert, take the overall victory on the night.
