Heading Into Action - Poole v Belle Vue Preview

Director of Speedway Mark Lemon is looking forward to resuming his team managing duties with the Belle Vue Aces on Wednesday when they travel to Poole for Leg 1 of their KOC encounter.

It follows the club’s successful season opener, the prestigious Peter Craven Memorial, last Saturday at the National Speedway Stadium in which Aces new signing Kenneth Bjerre emerged victorious.

The team are now preparing for their first competitive action as a unit against the powerful Pirates on April 5; over whom they're aiming to establish a healthy lead ahead of the home leg on April 7.

While the Pirates already have a handful of meetings under their belt, team boss Lemon says his side is far from daunted and is in fact relishing the prospect of kicking off their year with a bang.

“I personally am looking forward to picking up with the boys as team manager!” he chuckles. “It’s a huge challenge but such a huge honour to be involved in the club’s administrative side this year.

“There’s still plenty more work to be done yet though so it’ll be nice to get back into the pits with the guys and utilise my experience in that field, and I think Poole will prove excellent opponents.

“I’m reservedly expecting a lot from the Aces in this meeting. Quite a few have already put in plenty of laps, especially those in the main body of the team who’ve recorded some impressive wins.

“Kenneth Bjerre has won two individuals, and Craig Cook and Justin Sedgmen have each won one individual. They’ve made a great start and I expect them to join forces and combine their skills.”

The last three seasons have dished up some exceptional matches between these two British Premiership giants and Lemon affirms his belief that this Wimborne Road clash will follow suit.

He continued: “Poole have certainly got off to a good start this year but I believe we’re in an excellent position to put up a great fight on Wednesday. Of course the goal for us is to win.

“Matt Ford has taken the Pirates to new heights in the last decade and they are certainly a dominant force, but as much as we’re aware of them I’m sure they are equally as aware of us.

“I don’t believe the Pirates would underestimate us. My mission has been to help turn the tide of opinion towards the Aces are and they know we come with a different reputation these days.”
