Max-imum Man Fricke!

The Belle Vue Aces further extended their lead at the top of the Premiership table on Friday night with a hard-fought 48-42 win over Leicester, who took home a well-earned consolation point.

Club No.1 Max Fricke became the latest in an ever-growing list of Belle Vue riders - along with Craig Cook and Kenneth Bjerre - to bag himself a maximum, scoring 14+1 from five flawless rides.

Things didn’t get off to a flying start for the home team however as the Watling JCB Lions arrived in Manchester prepared to face their rampant hosts and hit the ground running almost immediately.

They held the meeting to ransom for no less than 8 heats, with just two points the deficit until the Rentruck Aces were able to respond and draw the scores level at 27 apiece in an electric Heat 9.

Cook and Fricke further enhanced the dramatic comeback in Heat 13 wth a fantastic 5-1, with Dan Bewley and Justin Sedgmen the Heat 14 heroes who put the Rentruck Aces well and truly in front.

The former duo then finished the job emphatically and proved without a doubt that even without Danish dynamo Kenneth Bjerre in the team, these Belle Vue Aces shouldn't be underestimated.

Fricke said: “Leicester have had a few great performances this season, both at home and away. I’ve noticed a few of their results so I think we expected them to bring quite a challenge with them.

“I didn’t expect them to run us as close as they did! From the start we were missing Kenneth Bjerre and a few of the boys had a couple of dramas with their machines early doors, which wasn't great.

“We knew we needed to pull it together in the late stages of the meeting. We had a bit of a team talk and got ourselves sorted out, and went out and got three 5-1s in the last three heats.

“I’m pretty stoked with my performance tonight. I've not had a Premiership maximum before now so that was my first one and to come so early in the season is awesome. I’m really happy.

“WI think our performance tonight just proves the potential this team has. Even when we’re not a full strength, we’re competitive and we are capable of winning and that’s absolutely crucial.”
