Goodwin Expects Tough Test Against Tigers

The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts are gearing up for a tough test when they welcome the powerful Mildenhall Fen Tigers to Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium this Friday, April 28.

A resilient comeback to take victory over Stoke last weekend has helped dispel the team’s pre-season nerves, but they are especially keen to kick off their campaign at home in winning style.

Both teams will be at full-strength for this mouth-watering repeat of last year’s Travel Plus Tours National League opener, with Rob Shuttleworth making his first Cool Running Colts appearance.

With just one loss to Mildenhall’s name so far, team boss Graham Goodwin says his side can anticipate a stiff challenge from the Fen Tigers as both sides target maximum points on the night.

He said: “You never know what your own season is going to be like until you’ve got your first meeting under your belt and Saturday’s match at Stoke definitely settled a few nerves.

“To come away with the win was an added bonus and with Rob Shuttleworth back with us on Friday night, hopefully we can put in a strong enough performance to build on that success.

“Mildenhall are one of the teams we’ve got our eye on as being top contenders for a place in this year’s Play Off. They’ve got some very strong characters in their team, which is solid throughout.

“Jon Armstrong is very fond of Belle Vue’s track and he’s backed up by two capable heat leaders in Dan Halsey and Connor Mountain, and Jordan Jenkins has all the hallmarks of a star reserve.

“It’ll be a tough test for our boys. The Fen Tigers have had more track time than we’ve had as a team, but as a unit we’re confident and want to go out there and win our first meeting at home.”

Tickets for this event are available now online at www.bellevueaces.co, and on race night at the ticket office. Grandstand only, Adults £10, Concessions £8 and Under 18’s go free!
