Cook: 'We Will Be Back, Stronger!'

Spectators couldn’t have asked for more intense action in Belle Vue’s bank holiday clash against Somerset as the two sides battled unrelentingly in pursuit of those all-important Premiership points.

The Cases Rebels were out to end their dry-spell on the road and brought their best game with them which culminated in their just edging out the Rentruck Aces 44-46 in a last-heat decider.

Captain Craig Cook fought diligently to try and keep some distance between himself and opposing No.1 Rohan Tungate, who was certainly enjoying conditions at the National Speedway Stadium.

It wasn’t to be in the end but even so, Cook says he’s proud of the efforts put in by his side and that they must now sweep this “blip” under the carpet and move on to their next meeting.

He said: “It’s frustrating to lose at home. There’s nothing worse but we've got to look towards the business end of the season and the bigger picture concerning how well our campaign has begun.

“It was a tough meeting and Somerset ran us hard. Personally I feel that had both teams tracked their regular 1-7 things might've been different. But I’m not taking anything away from the Rebels.

“They took full advantage of the chinks in our armour and came away with 3 points. Our boys were riding their hearts out and it certainly wasn’t through lack of effort that we ended up missing out.

“Every rider - and indeed every team - will experience one or two blips during the year. Nobody’s perfect after all. We only lost by a slight margin so I see no reason to reach for the panic button.

“I don’t want this loss to get to us. We’re a solid outfit and we’ve more than proved our potential. We’ll come back stronger for our next meeting. We need to put this one to bed and move forward.”

Belle Vue’s home action continues next Wednesday, May 10 at 7:30pm, when the Cool Running Colts take on the Lakeside Hammers. Tickets now available online at www.bellevueaces.co.
