Bickley Targets Big Performance

The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts will kick off a very busy May schedule on Friday night with their first visit to Lakeside where they hope to continue their brilliant start to the 2017 campaign.

With 6 league points from two meetings so far, they have done well to emulate the successes of the more senior Aces and are determined to maintain the pace at the Arena Essex Raceway.

The ‘Vortex’ Hammers are amongst this year’s National League newcomers in the wake of a successful 2016 Elite League season and have already made their revamped presence felt.

Both sides track a full-strength team save for one change for Belle Vue at No.3. The club has called on Ben Hopwood as their guest for the night as Rob Shuttleworth is on Championship duty.

With both team looking equally strong on paper, club No.6 Kyle Bickley knows the Cool Running Colts will have their work cut out for them but that victory on the night is far from off the table.

He said: “Lakeside’s team look pretty tough and although they haven't started as strongly as we have I’m sure they will put up a good fight so we will need to make sure we bring our best game.

“Me and Andy Mellish have been practicing at Northside since our last meeting against Mildenhall. It’s quite a small track and I think those extra laps will help at Lakeside, which is also quite small.

“Having said that, everyone in our team is capable of getting around the smaller circuits as quick as they get around Belle Vue so there’s no reason we can’t go there and come away with a win.

“It’s a shame we won’t have Rob with us but I think Ben is a good heat leader and should do a good job for us. We’ve already proved we can win away from home when we’re down one man.

On how his maiden National League season is going so far, Bickley said: “I feel like things are going well for me so far. Stoke was a bit of a difficult night and wasn’t the easiest way to start off.

“But even so, I felt pretty fast. I made a few changes ahead of the first home meeting at Belle Vue last week and was making nearly every gate, so hopefully I can keep building on that at Lakeside.”
