Colts Battle To The Finish

A close encounter with Lakeside ultimately denied the Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts a consolation point on Friday after the Vortex Hammers maintained their unbeaten home run with a 49-41 win.

The additional laps around Northside certainly prepared Kyle Bickley for the kinds of set-ups he’d be needing at the Arena Essex Raceway which he perfectly demonstrated with 12+1 big points.

At the half-way stage, a four-point deficit extended to six, then back to four before the home team really started to take control with a vital 5-1 in Heat 9 - after a short delay - to pull clear by 8 points.

But in typical Belle Vue fashion, the visitors responded to reduce the damage and in securing two 5-1s of their own in the last four heats, they forced their hosts into a dramatic last-heat decider.

Team boss Graham Goodwin said: “Lakeside is a tricky track to come to and I don’t think there will be many teams this year who will come to Arena Essex and leave with a point, or even a win.

“Kyle Bickley was sensational. He took to the place very well. He was gating well, riding a good line and had cracked the set-ups. It was frustrating for the others but we’re not worried by this result.

“There were a good number of times where it looked like we were starting to fall behind but everyone kept battling and fought hard to keep us in it, and it’s almost cruel we didn’t get a consolation point.

“When push comes to shove, we gave it a good go. We must learn from this and move on and though we’re disappointed not to get a point, we’re far from disappointed with the performance.”

The next action at the National Speedway Stadium sees these two sides meet on Wednesday, May 10, when the Cool Running Colts will be targeting their second consecutive home win.

Tickets for this mouth-watering clash are available now online through the club’s official website at www.bellevueaces.co and will be available on race day at the stadium ticket office.
