Shuttleworth: 'Bring On The Hammers!'

The Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts are hoping to extend their lead at the top of the National League table on Wednesday night when they host the Lakeside Hammers in Manchester.

The home team missed out on a consolation league point when the two sides met at Arena Essex and club No.3 Rob Shuttleworth is confident of a much stronger performance this time around.

He said: “Unfortunately I missed that fixture due to a clash with Workington, but the boys did a great job to push them as hard as they did and I’m certain things will be different for us at home.

“I think it’ll be a really good match. They’ve got three pretty big hitters at their top end but three guys don’t make a team, and we've proved already just how solid we are from top to bottom.

“Having said that, they put up a really strong front last Friday so we’re not complacent going into this one. We’ve got to put in 100% if we want the win and that’s something we always aim to do.”

The visitors will be without club No.3 David Mason for their trip to the National Speedway Stadium as he continues to feel the effects of a crash suffered at Cradley. They will utilise the R/R facility.

Since their encounter with the Vortex Hammers, the Cool Running Colts put in a highly successful afternoon’s racing at Buxton where they took the maximum haul of four National League points.

With four more fixtures still to come this month, including their home bout with Lakeside on May 10, Shuttleworth says the opportunity to further enhance their league rank is one they must take.

He said: “I’ve invested more money into my engines this year so for me there’s no excuses around Belle Vue; the engine I’m running at the NSS has been tuned specifically for the bigger tracks.

“The whole team wants to be as successful as possible as we’re delighted with how our campaign has begun, but part of what’s helping our cause is the fact we’re really enjoying our racing.”
