Three More Points As Colts Go Clear

A fabulous night of racing saw the Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts go two points clear at the top of the National League table after pulling off an emphatic 60-30 victory over the Lakeside Hammers.

The home team took full advantage of David Mason’s absence for the visitors and immediately took control of the meeting, leaving the Vortex Hammers to play a difficult game of catch up.

Four heats in and the Cool Running Colts were dominating. Having already extended their lead to 12 points, there was no lull in their momentum and the gap continued to increase with each race.

There was little chance of Lakeside recovering in the face of such a powerful Belle Vue front but that didn’t stop them trying; Zach Wajtknecht rode the meeting of his life to secure his 14 points.

Another storming performance from Dan Bewley saw him drop just one point from his five rides while Kyle Bickley and Lee Payne also put in double-figure scores with 11+2 and 10 respectively.

The result was particularly pleasing for team boss Steve Williams as it not only demonstrated the strength in depth of his team but also the growing confidence of the younger riders in the side.

He said: “When we first started the season, I’ll be honest, I thought the guys towards the lower end of the team might take a little bit of time to settle in but they’ve really hit the ground running.

“All of our riders are so dialled into the circuit here at the National Speedway Stadium it’s just unbelievable really and to have put in another big result in as many meetings here is fantastic.

“In fairness to Lakeside, we were fully prepared for them to come here and push us a little harder than they did. Ben Morley and Zach Wajtknecht were flying but I think they did miss David Mason.

“Even so, you’d expect us to have the advantage at home as Lakeside had the advantage at Arena Essex. The boys did a brilliant job winning so emphatically and we’re delighted with the result.”

Next on the Belle Vue calendar is Premiership action on May 19 between the Belle Vue Aces and the Swindon Robins. Tickets are available through the club’s website at
