Colts Reclaim Top Spot

The Belle Vue Colts were back on top of the National League table on Friday night after a stunning 66-24 domination of the Stoke Potters kicked off a busy bank holiday schedule for the Mancunians.
Ahead of proceedings, a minute’s silence was impeccably observed by everyone at the National Speedway Stadium in memory of those killed or injured in the tragedy at the Manchester Arena.
Kyle Bickley and Andy Mellish took their change of positions in their stride and contributed to the first two (of many) 5-1 advantages to the Cool Running Colts, bagging 7+2 and 6+1 respectively.

Dan Bewley
Elsewhere, Dan Bewley recorded another flawless 15-point maximum from five rides while skipper Lee Payne contributed 12+1, Jack Smith 11+1, Rob Shuttleworth 10+2 and Luke Woodhull 5+2.
Team manager Steve Williams said: “Our lads keep banging in these convincing wins, particularly at home which makes Heat 15 a bit of a dilemma but you can’t fault their efforts every time.
“I don’t think we expected to win so comprehensively against the Potters, given how hard they pushed us when we went to their place. To be honest, we were ready for a much closer meeting.
“But we can only race what’s put in front of them and each and every one of them did very well tonight, and despite what the score line may suggest we had some really close and exciting racing.
“Andy Mellish had a brilliant heat against his old mentor Tony Atkin and Rob Shuttleworth joked that he needed wing mirrors in one of his races with Jon Armstrong; you couldn’t ask for more.
“We’ve regained the top spot in the standings which is fantastic. We’ve got another three meetings in the coming days sand we’re hoping to make the most of them and take every point we can.”
