Colts Target Mildenhall Maximum

The Belle Vue Colts travel to Mildenhall on Sunday afternoon determined to make themselves more comfortable at the top of the National League table after their emphatic victory over Stoke.

They currently hold a two-point cushion over their closest rivals - Birmingham and Cradley, who hold joint second - with three meetings still to complete over the upcoming four-day period.

But the Cool Running Colts will face the Fen Tigers without Rob Shuttleworth and Lee Payne, who each picked up injuries while riding for their respective Championship clubs on Saturday night.

Eastbourne’s George Wood has accepted a late call-up to guest in place of the injured skipper while the Rider Replacement facility will be in operation at No.3 for Shuttleworth.

Belle Vue No.2 Andy Mellish said: “We’ve got a busy few days ahead of us, with Mildenhall on Sunday, Cradley on Monday and then back home again on Wednesday; but busy’s what we like.

“It keeps us on the ball, keeps the momentum going and gives us an excellent opportunity to add a few more points to our tally. So we’ll be going to Mildenhall with those thoughts very much in mind.

“They have some very strong characters in their side, especially the likes of Jon Armstrong and their top man Connor Mountain. Those boys absolutely know their way around West Row.

“I’ve a feeling it’ll be a close one. I’m sure everyone at Mildenhall is looking forward to it and I know we’re certainly looking forward to it, so hopefully we can come away with a good result.”

National League action returns to the National Speedway Stadium next Wednesday, May 31, when Belle Vue welcome the Buxton Hitmen to Manchester. Tickets available at
