Lemon Calls For Aces' Best

The Belle Vue Aces are next bound for Somerset’s Oaktree Arena where they aim to resume their Premiership campaign in winning ways, and they still have a score to settle with the southerners.

The Cases Rebels pulled off a shock win at the National Speedway Stadium on May 1, handing the Rentruck Aces their first defeat on home turf. They hope to return the compliment on Friday.

A win on the night would also significantly boost their ranking amongst the top four which, due to such a lengthy spell between fixtures, has seen the Mancunians drop from first place to fourth.

The Cases Rebels were due to track a full side until news came through that Patrick Hougaard had suffered a suspected broken shoulder in Denmark on Wednesday. They will operate R/R at No.5.

Zach Wajtknecht, Lakeside’s impressive No.6, deputises for reserve Dan Bewley, whose services are required by the British U-21 squad in Germany. The rest of the Aces are fielded as normal.

Team boss Mark Lemon is calling on his full septet to take advantage of any potential weaknesses exhibited by Somerset in order to “punish” them for their only home loss of the season so far.

He said: “I think there’s a little bit of payback on the cards in this meeting. We haven't forgotten what happened when they came to the National Speedway Stadium and turned us over.

“So there’s an element of sweet revenge in our plans but first and foremost we’ve got a job to do, and I think that’s how everyone feels in the camp. We’re just chirpy about getting back into action.

“It was frustrating to have such a lean spell in May but looking ahead it means the upcoming weeks will be very busy, and the boys are so fired up they don't need any more encouragement from me.

“Our away form has been pretty good so far this season. We want to maintain that pressure on Somerset because we've got a team that’s more than capable of picking up points on the road.”

The Belle Vue Aces return to action at home next Friday, June 9th when they rekindle their rivalry with the Poole Pirates. Tickets available online at www.bellevueaces.co.
