Mellish: 'We Must Be On The Ball'

The Belle Vue Colts continue to sit pretty at the top of the Travel Plus Tours National League but the pressure’s on as they look to bolster their position with a visit from the Isle of Wight on June 16.
They currently hold a 5-point cushion over closest rival Eastbourne, but having completed more matches than the rest of their counterparts there’s no underestimating any of their opponents.
After a slow start, the Wighlink Warriors have lately reshuffled their septet to include the highly-rated Connor Coles and Kelsey Dugard in place of Nathan Greaves and Rik Mullins.
Their new line-up was initially supposed to make their debut against the Cool Running Colts on June 6 before inclement weather postponed the fixture, meaning their first outing was June 13.

The home team are confirmed to be down two men on the night as injury victims Rob Shuttleworth and Lee Payne continue their recoveries from broken fingers and an injured shoulder respectively.
The Cool Running Colts will operate the Rider Replacement facility for Shuttleworth at .No.3 while local favourite Jon Armstrong comes in as a guest replacement for the team’s missing skipper.
Club No.6 Andy Mellish said: “I think everyone is excited to be facing the Warriors this week. I’ve never ridden the Isle of Wight’s track myself, though I have been in the past with Garry Stead.
“Smallbrook is a big fast track not so dissimilar to ours so I’m sure no one is gong to be shy in their approach to our place; I’d be surprised if they’re phased by the National Speedway Stadium.
“I’ve no doubt we’ll need to be on our toes and on the ball if we want to continue our dominance at home but with the way we've been riding lately, we should be on target for a positive result.”
It’s a busy weekend for Belle Vue in both leagues as the Aces head to Leicester and the Colts to Eastbourne on June 17, before the best of British battle for glory in Manchester on June 19.
