Dominant Aces Reign Over Champions

Mark Lemon was ecstatic to see his Belle Vue Aces perform so strongly against their close rivals Wolverhampton after they claimed an emphatic 53-40 victory at the National Speedway Stadium.

The vital win has put the Rentruck Aces four points clear at the top of the league table though they still have plenty of work to do to secure their place amongst this year’s Play Off contenders.

Following the news that captain Craig Cook had withdrawn due to an aggravated back injury, there were many who expected the Parrys International Wolves to have a much easier task.

But the Mancunians were determined to prove them wrong and in the absence of their skipper the home team knew they had to raise their game to prevent the visitors from taking advantage.

The powerful pairing of Max Fricke and Rohan Tungate inspired an early advantage to the hosts leaving Wolverhampton with work to do, but ultimately it was a deficit they would never recover.

Belle Vue No.4 Rohan Tungate said: “It was a win we desperately needed. It’s been a bit of a mixed bag for us lately, especially at home, so I think that has definitely settled the nerves.

“We had to work harder after we lost Cookie [Craig Cook] but we’re always up for the extra rides a Rider Replacement facility affords us, and I think we more than had the power to back him up.

“Wolverhampton didn’t make things easy for us. They wanted points from this meeting and I’m sure they weren’t expecting us to come on as strongly as we did; everyone put in a great performance.

“I personally had quite a good night. I found a set-up I was happy with. The track rode really well and it certainly worked in our favour so hopefully it’s a similar story when we’re back next Monday.”

Next week, it’s the turn of the Poole Pirates to take on the Belle Vue Aces in Manchester when Premiership action returns to the National Speedway Stadium on Monday July 31.
