Elements Wreak Havoc In KOC Final

The elements once again won out over Manchester, bringing an abrupt end to Belle Vue’s hotly anticipated top flight finale with Wolverhampton after a massive downpour drowned the circuit.

It was an intense battle-in-the-making between two of the Premiership’s fiercest rivals with the Parrys International Wolves leading by 10 going into the first heat, following a delayed start.

Persistent downpours throughout the day gave way to a forecasted clear evening and the visitors picked up from where they had left off at Monmore Green with a strong opening gambit.

The Rentruck Aces then bit back with two huge 5-1s to close the aggregate gap to just 6 points, with Jack Smith the Heat 4 hero who gated like lighting to launch the home team’s comeback.

But just as the hosts were poised to make further headway, the weather once again closed in and launched an unrelenting assault on the track which ultimately track staff were unable to salvage.

As the meeting fell short of the required Heat 10 minimum to declare a result, the aggregate scores reset to 40-50 ahead of the re-staging date now confirmed for Monday October 16.

While it was frustrating to have to admit defeat, says Kenneth Bjerre, rider safety had to take priority and it’s only served to make his side even hungrier for the coveted KOC silverware.

He said: “After that last bit of rain, there was no way we could carry on. The track had been improving before that, but the conditions were far from ideal and already very challenging.

“In my first ride, the track was quite wet and I had a few mechanical issues after water got into the spark plug on my bike. But by the time I came out for my second it was starting to settle down.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t get a result but all the boys would much rather come back another day and race in good conditions where we can really give the fans a spectacle to end our season.

“I want to win this one. I’m desperate to win this one for Belle Vue as all of us are. There’s no other option for us. We’re going to go full throttle and do whatever it takes to get that trophy.”

There’s even more to look forward to as the season reaches its climax with the Cool Running Colts set to face Eastbourne in their NL title-deciding battle on October 18.

This comes after they clash with Mildenhall on October 13 in their KOC semi-final, while the ACU British Sidecar Speedway Championship Final graces NSS shale October 14.

The club's end of season celebration, “The Maugers”, takes place on Saturday October 21. Tickets for all upcoming events are available at www.bellevueaces.co and on race night.
