Mellish Misses Out

Popular clubman Andy Mellish has confirmed he will not be returning to Belle Vue’s National League side as a confirmed 2018 starter, but has pledged his support to the team as they defend their title.
The Colts have already unveiled Jack Smith, Ben Woodhull, Kyle Bickley, Joe Lawlor and Ken Dicken amongst their new-look side and will announce their final two signings on Wednesday, February 7.
33-year old Mellish fulfilled a lifetime ambition to ride for his childhood club in 2016 and has remained a firm favourite throughout his two-year tenure; which he hopes to resume in the future.
A nasty crash at Eastbourne last October left him nursing a badly broken foot - which was later confirmed to be shattered in six places – that brought his campaign to an abrupt and painful end.
With the new season just over a month away, Mellish has confirmed he is in no position to be riding a bike any time soon and says he fully understands his omission from team-building plans.
He said: “I can’t emphasise enough how fantastic the Belle Vue management have been throughout this whole thing, and they have made it clear that the door will always be open for me to return.
“Unfortunately, that return will not coincide with the start of the season primarily because of my ongoing recovery. It’s been a frustrating few months, with progress going slower than I’d like.
“Anyone who knows me will know just what it means to me to wear a Belle Vue jacket, but I didn’t feel it would be fair to the club to commit to riding without knowing for certain if I’d be fit enough.

“But the support I’ve received from Mark, Adrian, Steve and Graham has been amazing. It’s a wonderful feeling to know my contributions to the club that I love have made such an impression!
“I’m absolutely determined to do what I can to help when the new season kicks off. I’m so pleased to see so many young lads in the team this year and if I can assist them in any way, I’d be delighted to.”
