Colts Take It To The Top

Belle Vue kicked off their Bank Holiday weekend bonanza with a masterful show from reigning National League champions, the Cool Running Colts, who triumphed 50-40 over Coventry.

Fresh from their first meeting against local rivals Birmingham, the midland outfit were men on a mission to take points from the home team in their first league clash of the 2018 campaign.

It was a tough ask of the new-look Colts side, in their opening gambit, but they were not daunted by the prospect of putting in the effort to get the result they believed was not beyond them.

But the visitors made them work hard on this breezy Good Friday, and it made for a thoroughly entertaining afternoon where the lead was constantly to-ing and fro-ing.

Captain Jack Smith said: “It was a tough meeting but we really didn’t expect anything less to be honest. Coventry are a good side with some experienced guys and they made us work hard.

“It’s a different situation when we have these midday meetings because the track is not what we’re used to. The preparation is done with the daylight hours in mind as opposed to evening.

“Things were very slick this afternoon, and a combination of the sun and wind was drying it out quicker and creating patchy areas, so it was a real challenge for both teams to overcome.

“But overall I was very happy with our performance. The first meeting is always a tough one. Everyone’s still rusty but it’s a great start for us and showed our potential to make the play offs.”

That’s a huge boost of confidence and three league points immediately in the bag for the Belle Vue ‘Cool Running’ Colts, who take their place at the top of the National League table.

The Rentruck Aces meanwhile prepares to launch their KOC title defence on Easter Monday April 2 against Wolverhampton at 12pm. Tickets available online at www.bellevueaces.co.
