Quarter Final KO

The Belle Vue Colts followed through beautifully in the second leg of their Knock Out Cup Quarter Final against Buxton, winning 54-36 on the day and sweeping to an aggregate victory of 112-68.

The Mancunians were favorites to progress as they took a tremendous lead to the High Edge Raceway after dominating the Hitmen 58-32 at the National Speedway Stadium on Friday night.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the neighbours to respond to such an advantage, and the Cool Running Colts emphatically defended the scores in their favour with a win on Sunday.

Further compounding the hosts' frustrations was the loss of David Wallinger following his nasty Heat 3 spill in Manchester just two days ago, with reports suggesting he suffered a broken ankle.

There were a few edge-of-the-seat moments this afternoon with Kyle Bickley, Ben Woodhull and Kean Dicken each taking a tumble but thankfully none seemed any the worse for wear.

On their advancement to the semi-finals, club No.6 Paul Bowen said: “We felt relaxed, especially after coming away from the first leg in such a strong position but we still had a job to do.

“Nothing is guaranteed so you can’t be in any way complacent. But there was such a positive attitude amongst the team about what we needed to do that we wrapped things up pretty fast.

“You’ve got to feel for Buxton, losing David Wallinger, because he made such a difference to them at the NSS but it was one of those disadvantages that we had to take advantage of to get the win.

“From our point of view, everyone put in their shift. It’s a job well done and we’re all in one piece. We can now look forward to putting ourselves to the test against Eastbourne next Saturday.”

It’s back to the Premiership for Belle Vue tomorrow night, April 23, at the National Speedway Stadium where the Rentruck Aces clash with the Rye House Rockets in league competition.

Tickets are available for this home fixture at www.bellevueaces.co, or at the stadium box office on race night.
