Dan Bewley lived up to his reputation as Belle Vue’s rocket man after bagging a five-ride paid maximum in the Rentruck Aces’ 59-31 dominance of the Rye House Rockets on Monday night.
And the positives just kept coming for the home team with Rohan Tungate announcing his return to sublime form with a paid 10 haul from four rides after a difficult start to the 2018 season.
Rain threatened to put early proceedings in jeopardy but for the persistent efforts of the track staff, and the management’s conviction that forecasts for a dry evening would allow for some fine racing.
Despite having the knowledge of ex-Belle Vue Ace Scott Nicholls at their disposal, the B.P. Mitchell Rockets had no answer to the energy and momentum being generated by their hosts.
Rye House No.3 Krzysztof Kasprzak was at the centre of some of the most exciting races, putting both Bewley and Tungate to the test from which each emerged having overcome his challenge.
Maximum man Dan Bewley said: “It was an excellent meeting. I’d like to thank Mark Lemon and Max Fricke for talking me into Heat 15. Initially I didn’t really want to do it and risk my maximum.
“But I’m really glad I did it and I got to race against, and beat, Krzysztof Kasprzak. It was quite a special experience to pass him on the line, like he did Darcy Ward to win a GP some years ago.”
Team boss Mark Lemon added: “There’s a lot of things you can say about the performance tonight, but it was truly sensational to work with these boys tonight. They were just on fire.
“Things are clicking for us and nights like this fill me with pride. To see the likes of Jye Etheridge taking his first Premiership heat win and to see Rohan Tungate back on form is awesome.
“There are no easy races and the scores don’t do justice to how hard Rye House pushed us. They made us work for each and every point and you can’t fail to appreciate what our boys achieved."
The world champion, Jason Doyle, is in town next Monday, April 23 when the Rentruck Aces tackle the Somerset Rebels while the Cool Running Colts head south to Eastbourne on Saturday April 28.
Tickets for next week’s Premiership home fixture are now available at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night.
