Neighbourhood Scrap

Belle Vue are almost back to their full National League strength ahead of their visit to neighbours Buxton on June 3, where the reigning champions hope to boost their league efforts.

A close encounter with Plymouth on Friday almost netted them a substantial points haul, but a late fightback from their hosts saw them leave the south coast with a valuable consolation point.

The Cool Running Colts currently lead the 2018 National League play off race by an extremely comfortable margin, which they hope to further extend on their trip to the High Edge Raceway.

Paul Bowen remains sidelined with a thumb injury, but after showing plenty of promise at the St Boniface Arena, Belle Vue bosses have recalled James Chattin to the side to deputise at No.6.

Team boss Graham Goodwin said: “We’ve always had a healthy rivalry with Buxton. It’s one of our derby matches and we always have a thoroughly enjoyable meeting when we travel there.

“We’re not taking anything for granted however. We’ve had one very comprehensive win there this season but the scores start out at nil-nil, and there is no certainty of anything in speedway.

“It feels good to be holding top spot in the table but it is misleading given the number of league fixtures we’ve had, but if we continue as we are, we’re quite capable of repeating history.”

Manchester will welcome two of the biggest events on the 2018 calendar to the NSS in the coming week, with the highly-anticipated inaugural Speedway of Nations landing first on June 5.

Then, reigning British Champion Craig Cook will defend his crown on June 11 while 15 other British hopefuls, including Belle Vue’s Dan Bewley, look to strip him of his hard-earned title.
