The Rebel Alliance

Returning Belle Vue Ace Steve Worrall is chomping at the bit for Monday’s Premiership clash with league leaders Somerset, having yet to make a league appearance with his parent club this year.

And the Rentruck Aces will need every ounce of firepower at their disposal as competition amongst the top-flight clubs continues to escalate, with the current top four all in action on Monday night.

Somerset will doubtless be looking to reigning world champion Jason Doyle to inspire victory, with a couple of new faces in the form of Aaron Summers and Nico Covatti having joined the team.

But Worrall insists the Rentruck Aces aren’t feeling the pressure, stating: “Everyone’s in the same boat, but the onus is on Somerset because they’re top of the table and they’ll want to stay there.

“They like to ride our track and they’ll be wanting to come away with something from the meeting, so that in turn puts the spotlight on us to ensure our performance is much stronger than theirs.

“We won’t be taking any races for granted. They’re not top for nothing and they have the best rider in the world as their captain. There’s a lot at stake for both sides so it’ll be an amazing meeting.”

On his return to the track after three months on the sidelines, he said: “It’s just like riding a bike, you never forget! I had my first meeting on Friday and it took a few races to get into the groove.

But once I’d settled down, I felt really good. My reactions haven’t faltered and as time went on I felt stronger and more comfortable, so hopefully I can blow the last few cobwebs away at Belle Vue.”

The Rentruck Aces are on the road to Wolverhampton next Monday, July 23 before heading back to Manchester on Wednesday, July 25 for the return fixture against their Black Country rivals.

The club then celebrates their official 90th birthday on July 28 with their highly-anticipated Summer of Speed Saturday, featuring Round 5 of the British Youth Championship as the main event.

Tickets for the Premiership home fixture are available online at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night. Further info on the Summer of Speed Saturday is coming soon.
