High Stakes on Both Fronts

The stakes couldn’t be higher for Belle Vue ahead of their visit to Leicester on Monday, August 13 as both teams battle for crucial points to keep their hopes of Premiership play off qualification alive.

And the Cool Running Colts continue their mission to retain the National League title down at Kent the same evening, with the two sides locked on 21 points and holding joint second in the table.

Dimitri Berge makes his top-flight debut for the Rentruck Aces following the club’s recent team changes while Mark Riss looks to build on an encouraging start to his Belle Vue residence.

But with six of the seven Premiership sides in action on Monday, team boss Mark Lemon knows that nothing less than a big performance from his entire team will be enough to impact the table.

He said: “We’ve not ruled ourselves out of the top four. We’ve got a busy week coming up and plenty of opportunities to turn things around and I have confidence in the boys to deliver.

“We travel to Leicester on Monday where we’ve already put in one very good performance this season so that gives us plenty of encouragement and motivation to go one better this time.”

Meanwhile, the Cool Running Colts take a full-strength side down to Sittingbourne where they hope to break the deadlock with the Kings and close the gap on close rivals Mildenhall.

And while the reigning champions are somewhat comfortable in the top four, club No.1 Jack Smith says his team are far from complacent especially with congestion building up in the lower orders.

He said: “Now that other clubs are starting to catch up to us, in terms of the number of meetings they’ve raced, we need to up our game and keep the pressure on in the build-up to the play offs.

“Kent are a more-than decent side who have really come to life in the top four challenge and they are a force to be reckoned with at home, so we’ll need a big performance to grab some points.”

It’s a busy week for both teams as the Rentruck Aces head to Somerset on Wednesday, August 15 while the Cool Running Colts welcome Kent to the National Speedway Stadium the same night.

Tickets for the National League home fixture are now available online at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night.
