Imminent Re-Shuffle?

A collection of vital National League clashes over the next few days could re-shape the top four once again and leave Belle Vue with work to do if they’re to consolidate their play-off qualification.

The Cool Running Colts currently hold fourth place but with Birmingham and Eastbourne featuring in several meetings through to the weekend, they have ample opportunity to bump them out.

It means nothing less than a win will do for the Mancunians at the National Speedway Stadium this Friday, August 31, while they maintain a vested interest in other fixtures going on around the UK.

And they’ve called on a superb guest in the form of Buxton’s Ben Wilson to guest at No.3 for Kyle Bickley, who is on duty with Championship side Workington up at Edinburgh the same night.

Kent Kings also track two substitute riders with Ben Morley stepping in for the absent Paul Hurry at No.1, while Georgie Wood guests for Jack Thomas, who is riding for Glasgow against Newcastle.

Colts skipper Jack Smith said: “We have to win our remaining fixtures if we want to give ourselves the best shot of making the play offs, and winning at home is an absolute minimum requirement.

“The top four is still up in the air and while that’s the case, we’ll be fighting for every point we can. But we know we can expect to find quite a bit of resistance from Kent so we need to be prepared.

“Having Ben [Wilson] in for Kyle is a huge boost. We’ve seen plenty of examples of what he can do at our track and while we’d prefer to have our full team, Ben will I’m sure do a great job.”

The Rentruck Aces hope to consolidate their top four position when they face Somerset at home next Wednesday, September 5 before they visit Swindon next Thursday, September 6.

The Cool Running Colts meanwhile face the Isle of Wight on Friday, September 7 before clashing with Mildenhall a week later on September 14 in the second leg of their KOC semi-final.

Tickets for all home meetings are now available online at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night.
