Consolidating the Positives

A tough night for the Belle Vue Colts saw them leave Mildenhall empty-handed after the league leaders won 50-28, with the meeting abandoned after Heat 13 due to lack of medical cover.

But club No.3 Kyle Bickley insists that their evening was far from a write-off, and affirmed there were “plenty of positives” to be taken from the experience that were just as valuable as points.

Home advantage, as well as experience of West Row, played its part in the visitors’ defeat with Bickley, together with Tom Perry, top-scoring with 8 apiece while Jack Smith added 6+1.

Bickley said: “Mildenhall have a team very much like our own from last season. It’s a bit of a freak team, but in the best way. They’re very strong and all of their riders are piling in decent points.

“We understood ahead of time that this would be a real challenge for us. A few of our guys have never seen this track before so it was completely new to them, and it is a tough place to ride.

“The score doesn’t reflect the effort on our part unfortunately, and it’s a shame we couldn’t finish the meeting with only two heats to go. But circumstances meant that just couldn’t happen.

“I don’t think we can be disappointed because everybody tried their hardest and that’s all you can ask. If nothing else, the experience alone has been valuable to the team’s wider development.”

British Champion Robert Lambert returns to Manchester for the first time since winning the British title on Monday, August 6 with King’s Lynn for a Premiership showdown with the Rentruck Aces.

Tickets for this home fixture are now available online at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night.
